The usual fixes are small. Hinge screws that have lost their bite get replaced with long screws that reach framing. A latch that misses gets the strike moved rather than the hole filed bigger. A door that rubs at the top gets the hinge side shimmed instead of the slab planed.

The bigger version is jamb repair: a split hinge mortise or a kicked-in latch side gets cut out, rebuilt with solid stock, and the casing replaced so the repair disappears under paint.
